This lovely brooch measures 2 1/2" by 1 7/8" and has a center almost 1" oval of amethyst faceted glass - not sure if it is real or just glass. The heavy brass brooch has a floral and foliage design with 5 petaled flowers. The etching is deep and the brass is thick. The pinstemextends beyond the frame, is also thick and the C-clasp is very sturdy. The glass is unfoiled and openbacked- it is bezel set. There is a fleabite on the edge of one of the facets and some brass discoloration on the back as seen in the picture. In GREAT condition for how many years it's been around! This is an interesting old piece. I am not sure if it is Vulcanite(ebonite) or Gutta Percha. When tested it leaves a blackish-brown mark on cement and it has the definite odor of burnt rubber. It is wonderfully carved and measures 2" by almost 3". There is a slight curvature to the body of the buckle. The buckle mechanism itself still has most of the paint on it but does have a few rust spots. In Great Condition! | ||||||||||||||||||
